The 24 Hours of Daytona, the first race of the 2025 season valid for the IMSA American Championship, goes into the archives with a positive sixth place, the result of an important comeback and a great job by the entire DragonSpeed team.
Started from twelfth in class (eighteenth overall) with Davide setting the best qualifying time among all the Ferrari 296 GT3s entered, the 24 Hours was strongly conditioned by an unfavorable BoP that made the entire crew of the number 81 race beyond the limits in order not to lose too much ground from the top positions.
At the end of the marathon, as many as 10 hours were covered in the car by Davide alone, with Miguel Molina, Thomas Neubauer and Albert Costa sharing the remaining stints. The final result was also affected by a contact that occurred on Sunday morning, then sanctioned with Drive Through – losing 20 precious seconds. The gap to the class leaders, the number 65 Ford, at the end of the 723 laps run was 28”.
Davide Rigon “It was a very difficult race, as we expected because of a very penalizing BoP that cut off a lot of our speed in the straights. Throughout the marathon we pushed like I was in qualifying to try to keep up with the high guys, but we were the slowest in the straights. We had a perfect race on our part as a team and as Ferrari. Sixth place was the best finish we could have achieved. We were quite happy with the balance throughout the race and especially in the night, in cold conditions, when the car was fast. However, I have to give kudos to the whole DragonSpeed team for a great job. We did nothing less than a year ago, where, however, we came out on top.”
